What is Vanilla Market COUNTER?
COUNTER is an instant messaging network within Vanilla Market. It brings together direct conversations, discussion groups and broadcast groups for people, creators, communities and businesses.
Is COUNTER an alternative to WhatsApp?
Yes. COUNTER is another option for conversations and communities when you want contact through a website, no required phone number, and broadcast groups up to 10,000 participants. It is independent of WhatsApp and does not recover blocked accounts or import WhatsApp conversations.
How many people can join a group?
Discussion groups support up to 1,000 participants; broadcast groups support up to 10,000. The creator and pending invitations count toward capacity. Everyone can post in discussions; only the creator posts in broadcasts.
Do I have to provide or reveal my phone number?
A phone number is not required to chat in COUNTER. Search uses a name or site name and conversations use your account. Contact details you choose to publish on your website remain public.
Do I need to download an app to use COUNTER?
No. COUNTER works in mobile, tablet and desktop browsers through your account, subject to network connectivity. Groups update across devices; personal conversation history stored on one device is not automatically copied to another. For mobile push notifications, download Vanilla Market from Google Play and allow notifications. The iPhone version is not yet available in the App Store.
How much does it cost to use COUNTER and create a group?
Getting started is completely free. Creating a profile, using chat and setting up groups and broadcast channels do not require a credit card or commitment.
Are COUNTER groups and broadcast channels private?
Yes. All COUNTER groups and channels are protected and are not exposed to the general public. Joining is only possible through a dedicated invitation link shared by the group creator, and content and messages are visible only to members who have actually joined.
Why is a COUNTER community better than posts on social media?
On social media, the algorithm shows content to only around 2% to 5% of followers unless you pay for promotion. COUNTER has no algorithm hiding messages — every update you send goes directly to your community members’ communication channel.
